Horse Chestnut
After work (yes, I met my deadline) and today’s downpour, I went for a walk. Much needed fresh air after two long office days.
Spring seems pretty much over already. The apple blossom has finished, the rapeseed fields are losing their yellow petals, and the foliage on most trees is fully developed and turning into the dark green of summer.
Some trees are still in flower though, like this horse chestnut.
Did you know they let pollinators know where to get the most nectar? When their flowers emerge, the coloured spot in their middle is yellow and they are full of sweet nectar. As soon as the flower is fertilized and the nectar gone, the colour changes to red. Like a traffic light for bees.
