Permission to land
I went to the Bruntingthorpe Airfield today with my friend to visit the Cold War Jets collection who were holding a 'fast taxi' day. This is where some of the jets are powered up and taxied around and then they run down the run way at high speed without taking off as some of the planes are no longer certified for flight.
It was an interested day seeing some jets pretty close including a Nimrod and a Victor tanker. The highlight of the day was when a Lightening did the fast run and hit the after burners. The noise and also the pressure wave as it ran past was awesome. There was a fly by of a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
There was one plane which flew in for a visit, it was a Jet Provost formally of the South Yemeni air force. Here it is moments before touching down on the runway. It was this type of training aircraft which was based at the RAF base near where I grew up and they were a common sight in the skies as I was growing up
