We bought a picture
Most years, though not lately because of Covid, a group of Dutch painters (see extra) stay for a week at The Old Brewery which is owned by the Cromarty Arts Trust.
I’ve teased them once or twice for having more paint on aprons than canvas. “You must come to our party“ they said. (For party, read selling exhibition.) So we happily did.
This is the view I see from the hilltop. So many colours in the sea when you look properly. So much variation in the sky. And you know that, just over the horizon, is Masefield’s stately Spanish galleon coming from the Isthmus, dipping through the tropics by the palm-green shores, with a cargo of diamonds, emeralds, amythysts, topazes, and cinnamon, and gold moidores.
And the artist was so excited because she had never sold a painting before. She rushed around telling everyone. Happy days.
Come back next year!
