Blow Dry Needed
I was surprised to find a lone merganser on the lake. It had just surfaced after a dive, accounting for the wet feathers. After a quick flap of the wings, s/he steamed off down the lake, but reasonably close, enough so I got my clearest shot of one yet.
A bit of research led me to conclude this is a female or immature male red-breasted merganser. If correct, it has me questioning my previous images that I labelled common merganser. Although to be fair, they were further away and might not be good enough to distinguish. But, it might also be another first for me.
