And yet the sky did not fall down
The Minx and I took a lunchtime walk, today, when we encountered this piece in my Extra by the artist known as El Bocho (and not much else, as his identity is a secret). It's called 'Work Live Travel', and it's painted on a piece of what was once part of the Berlin Wall. This is a much better use of masonry!
In the afternoon, the Minx had work to do, but I had nothing that couldn't wait, so I popped out for a walk, thinking that I might surprise her by picking up some disposable razors that she wanted.
Armoured with my newfound linguistic confidence, I entered an Apotheke, and asked if I might buy some razors. To be honest, the lady behind the counter looked a little more flummoxed than I'd hoped. Still, as she evidently didn't speak English - which was a good thing for my learning - we ploughed on in German.
But little progress was made, and in the end I asked if I ought to try a supermarket instead, earning me a smile, a nod, and a "Ja" from the apparently relieved pharmacist.
It was only as I walked away that I realised that I had confused the verbs "to buy" and "to sell".
Still, on balance, I think it was good for me to make a mistake and learn that the sky would not fall down as a consequence, which appears to be my deep-seated fear when it comes to getting anything wrong. And I very much doubt it's a mistake I'll make again!
Anyway, I recovered my composure, made a successful trip to the supermarket for the razors, and returned to base to do a bit of email.
And when we were both done for the day, we took a train into town, with a view to walking back through Tiergarten for some dinner.
It was a lovely evening for a walk, and one pleasant surprise came early on when we encountered the 'Midnight Runners', a group of perhaps two hundred runners, who were interspersed by people - pacemakers, I suspect - each of whom was carrying a speaker playing music. Honestly, it was a really moving sight to see them all running together.
I took today's Blip of Berlin's iconic Fersehturm as we crossed the main road that bisects the Tiergarten, and we wandered through the park until we came to Teehaus im Englischen Garten, where we stopped to recharge our batteries and enjoy a glass of wine before proceeding to Keyfi Sefa for a well-earned meal :-)
