No More ‘No Mow May’
The idea of No Mow May is to encourage Bumble Bees to prosper. This is a part of a strategy including Road verges which are now covered in dandelions. Hedges are also left until birds have finished nesting. Or so I am told.
Our dandelions have withered and in some areas the grass is nearly nine inches long.
I spent most of today mowing the grass with the mower being progressively lowered from its highest setting. About two thirds of our so called ‘lawn’ is now at a normal level.
Quite hard work. According to my step app I covered some five miles and 13500 steps. The mower grass box had to be emptied every 20 yards or so. The mower is electric and the 60 metre long cable needs to be repositioned frequently.
In normal times it takes about 90 minutes to cut the grass.
We have do large areas of flowers elsewhere and the Bees are quite happily working amongst these.
The drive shown in the Blipfoto is as it was when the church was built in 1841.
