Helter-skelter

Out of this world!

One of my husband's 'birthday presents' was a day out at 'Collectormania' in Milton Keynes, a sort of sci-fi/fantasy film/TV convention-thingy. We'd never been to anything like this before and while it wasn't strictly a 'convention', there were lots of stars there. Trouble is, without their make-up and costumes, I hardly recognised anyone (I'm not very good with just their names!).

I did recognise Kenny Baker, though, who played R2-D2 in all six Star Wars films and the kids were thrilled to get his autograph. I think the boy with him was his grandson. Although he and his wife both had dwarfism, his children are normal height. There's a really interesting interview with him from 1999 here.

I actually got a job as his 'dresser' at our local theatre once - when I dreamed of a career in showbiz - but I couldn't take it because it clashed with school. Hard to believe that was nearly 30 years ago!
