Ship Lifts

We visited some ship lifts to the north of Berlin where the original lift has recently been replaced whilst the old one is still in working order. Basically their job is to move boats from a lower canal to a far higher one ( a bit like the Falkirk Wheel ) These German lifts are bigger and sturdier than the Falkirk Wheel. These lifts are in the middle of nowhere in the countryside even though they are a tourist attraction. Our visit nearly turned into a bit of a nightmare when we realised that we had missed the last bus but we eventually managed to get a taxi back to the nearest railway station
