Coventry

Coventry - at last, as spotted on a hoodie by TBay. 

Who would have thought that Coventry would have ended up as one of the hard-to-reach places in our blipper-sourced online photo album of places mentioned in Lorna Lloyd's Diary of the war (previously blipped in full in the LornaL journal)?

Lorna mentions Coventry twice in her war diary. This is towards the end of 1940 after the bombing of the city, on 14th November 1940 and 5th December 1940. These war diary entries feature in Episode 7 of the podcast series of the Diary of the war.

Below is the list of places that we still need to represent in our journal. We've almost finished our project, but we still need your help.  If you are able to lend a hand by sending a shot for any of the places listed, then please do get in touch with h.hall@napier.ac.uk. 

Albania: Durrës (Durazzo)[1]
Egypt: Sidi Barrani[2]
Finland (2): Hanko (Hangö)[3]; Mannerheim Line
Germany: Heligoland[4]
Greece: Thermopylae[5]
Russia (3): Karelian Isthmus; Petsamo province (part of Finland until 1944); Vyborg (Viipuri in Finland until 1944)[6]

[1] There is a restaurant with this name in London N8.
[2]  Sidi Barrani is named on some war memorials. For example, a blipper in or near Lichfield could photograph this one for us.
[3] Perhaps a Finnish blipper could help out with this location in the south of Finland?
[4] Also the name of a 2010 Massive Attack album - check the record collections of your friends and family!
[5] Are you in Paris? Are you going to Paris? Would you have time to pop into the Louvre to photograph Leonidas at Thermopylae by David for us?
[6] If you have access to a globe or a world map, this may be the best way for us to represent these two places. We very much doubt that any blippers will be planning trips here in the near future.
