Luncheon
A day of washing, cleaning, changing beds . . . and I made a batch of biscuits. A good day for house stuff with windows open, washing dried outside. And a good day for a jigsaw - as I wait for a wash cycle to finish, as I wait for baking to complete, as I stop for coffee . . . a few pieces are put in.
This is the latest one, another of those challenging ones with the strangely shaped pieces, but it is amazing how soon sections come together and how satisfying it is when they do. This is Luncheon of the Boating Party by Renoir. As I was working on it I was getting to know these people, what they were wearing, who they were talking to and wondering about them.
It was not until I looked the picture up after I had completed the jigsaw that I found the people were all ones that Renoir knew - his friends, fellow artists, actresses . . . In fact the lady with the little dog was the lady he would soon marry. The guy on the left behind the railing is the proprietor of the restaurant, the young girl close by his daughter. So all my wondering about them was quite far off the mark, but I am glad I did not know about them beforehand.
The trip to Wembley yesterday was very successful, they had good seats and all said the atmosphere was great. The Extra is a photo that Maisie took and sent me. The stadium was full, all sold out. How far Women's Football has come . . .
