Inspired by local history
South view, built in 1855, was among the first houses to be built after the railway came to Windermere in 1847. The owner, Thomas Swainson, was a soft drinks manufacturer. I think his factory was nearby. I guess that this must have been one of the first industries to be established in the new town. Presumably the close proximity of the railway was a key factor in choosing this site. Apparently, local children used to find Swainson glass bottles in a local rubbish tip.
I am curious to know more.
