Tortrix viridana

This is the caterpillar of the green oak tortrix moth.  At this time of year when the oak leaves are young and tender, these caterpillars are munching away as fast as they can.  Once they have had enough of this green bonanza they abseil down onto my washing.  This one survived the vigorous shaking that normally takes place as I take the washing down from the line, so I took its picture before returning it to the garden.

The day was mostly consumed by the marking mountain, but I escaped after dinner and spent a couple of hours (hooray for the light evenings) weeding in the polytunnel and getting ready for the tomatoes and other plants.  That 35 litre bucket just visible in the extra was full of weeds (mostly bindweed) and will go to the chickens tomorrow.
