Memorial Day
My father is staying with us for a while. His brother, Leo, died on the last few days of World War II around Florence, Italy. He stepped on a land mine. In the days before, the Allies had liberated several concentration camps. I never met my uncle, but my father tells me stories of him. This document is a request for a military grave marker that I found on ancestry.com. I remember seeing the flag that was sent home with him. My grandmother kept it in her hall tree, folded up into triangles.
