Off plan

Things didn't quite go as planned today.  We'd intended going into Norwich for a bit of shopping and perhaps a light lunch somewhere nice.  We were up early and it was a lovely morning (which is unusual; we are convinced it always rains when we visit Norwich) so we got ourselves ready for an early start.  Just before 8.30am we headed off.

As I reversed the car off the drive there was a loud bang; the sort that makes you look at each other and say 'that's not good'.  I pulled forward a little and there was a grating sound as though something was catching, so I carefully put the car back on the drive and called the AA.

They arrived about 12.30pm and immediately diagnosed a broken spring.  He couldn't fix it at the roadside so we agreed he would tow the car to the Ford garage in Fakenham.  They called later and should be able to fix it by Thursday, but no idea of the cost yet.

The only silver lining is that we had been due to drive up to Lancashire this morning but, for various reasons, we'd cancelled the trip last week.  We got a full refund from the hotel but if we'd had to cancel this morning we'd have been liable for the full bill.  And the AA man said that if this had happened while driving, the tyre would have burst within about ten seconds.  Scary.

Oh, and that grass bottom left.  It's my neighbour's, not mine.  Wouldn't want you thinking I'd let mine get like that!
