Living the dream day 5

We had to be out by 9.30 today as Carol had booked a tour of a fabric factory near Pollenza. She wanted linen cotton mix to make seat covers and thought the men would like the factory if not the posh shop. It wasn’t really a factory, more a family business established in the 18th century, but they had amazing whizzy machines made in Belgium. They did plain, stripes and Ikat patterns. One table napkin cost €45. I didn’t buy anything. They wouldn’t have Carol’s pink ready till September so she’ll go back then.

We drove to the start of a short walk, 5 miles return with a gentle climb over a col to a secluded bay. The sea was gorgeously turquoise and then dark blue. We only viewed it from the cliff top then turned back as it was time for a late lunch around 2.30. We had to get a move on to get to the car as there were some very ominous clouds lurking but nothing came our way.

First we had a drive to Port Pollenza which seemed a down-to-earth resort. It was busy so instead of eating there we went back to the cafe next to the fabric shop. I ordered a tuna baguette and it was a whole bread with chips. Huge and €10. Roger finds my cooking rather on the exotic side so he had egg and chips.

He thought he’d take us to the Ribas winery for wine tasting and buying as it’s his preferred wine. The tasting was €12 for 3 glasses and they were sold out of the ones they like so we left without a purchase or a taste.

Roger had to make a phone call at 5 as he’s an expert witness for the FSA in an upcoming case so we parked in a little town for him to have his call while Carol took us to another home weaving place she liked. (Mr C decided to sit on a bench in the sun). The machines here were much older and the fabric a rougher weave but very pretty.

We got back in time for me to get some aubergines in and prepare garlic mushrooms to go with Carol’s lemon chicken. (she is concerned about lack of B12 in having veggie food too often and I don’t think Roger cared for my baked salmon dish last night!)

The weather is strange - every evening it is wall to wall blue sky and next day starts ominous with random
showers.
