Butterfly Rainforest

Spent a couple of hours in the Florida Museum of Natural History's Butterfly Rainforest. I'm familiar with our native Florida butterflies, but I have much to learn about flying jewels form other parts of the world. The small butterfly on a leaf in my main shot is a Clipper, Parthenon sylvia, from South and South-East Asia. And in the *extra...LtoR: The Tiger Longwing, Heliconius hecale, a native of Mexico to the Peruvian Amazon. A Rusty-tipped Page, Siproeta epaphus, is a New World butterfly and lives in tropical habitats. A Pearl Charaxes, Charaxes varanes, found in Africa from Saudi Arabia to South Africa. This beauty is a member of the Brush-footed butterflies. Next to last is the Julia Heliconian, Dryas iulia. Native from Brazil to southern Texas and Florida. And last but not least is the showy Large Tree Nymph, Idea leuconoe, aka the paper kite. It's origin is Southeast Asian but they can also be found in Northern Australia and Southern Taiwan. Not to worry, there won't be a test on any of this!  ;)
