Spring cleaning
Although we have a relatively small garden in an urban environment, we are surrounded by trees which makes it feel quite rural and secluded. The price we pay for this manufactured 'rural idyll' is made up of three things: the leaves that drop in the autumn and seem to gather in every nook and cranny of the garden, the moss that grows on every shaded wooden surface and the algae that coats the deck and paving. The last few wet and dull weeks have exacerbated the problem so the day was set aside for spring cleaning.
Mr Flossmo got the Karcher out and, using electricity generated by our solar panels set to pressure washing. It's slow but works well with no chemical intervention. I helped with moving garden furniture and plant pots and brushing off the water and dirt. In between times I scraped moss off the wooden steps and fed Mr Flossmo cups of coffee. All in all it was a dirty and wet business.
6:30 I was back in the interviewer's chair to continue with our volunteer recruitment drive. It's heartening to find there are people out there who really want to do something positive for society. This particular person already volunteers in other settings but also wants to help with adult literacy. It's a privilege to meet these people.
After that I was happy to read a little and have an early night.
The lovely forget-me-not has self-seeded in the garden. Technically, I guess, it's a weed but who could pull it up and throw it away?
Finally many thanks to all the wonderful blippers who sent me greetings on my 500th blip. You are all very kind.
