Wide Wednesday - looking up the rows
…of a cotton crop.
Today we travelled from Grenfell to Hay via the Murrumbidgee irrigation area in the Riverina in NSW. Instead of the usual route we deviated as we hadn’t driven to Griffith before. It is a wine, rice, cotton and citrus growing area.
I’ll add some extras of Barellan. It is a cute little town where we stopped to see if we could buy some more blankets. We have a new mattress in the van and have never been cold until last night. It was about 5° and we have been in much colder temperatures in the past. We found a second hand shop and got a clean looking mattress protector for $2 and 4 books for $1 each and an old original Monopoly Set in its box for $1. Bargain. If I was at home I would have washed the new linen but when you’re camping you just make do. For people in Australia old enough… know that Bankcard stopped working many years ago. The big tennis racket is to celebrate Yvonne Goolagong, a local, who did well in tennis over the years. Australia has a lot of Big Things.
I could say we saw no one in town but there were some very friendly locals who wanted to chat. Ha ha. They were funny.
Tonight we are staying in the yard behind the Services Club where we popped in for dinner this evening. Tomorrow we are heading to Wentworth where we are staying with blipper Ferna who is an old friend of ours.
