Starring, a bearded iris by Joe Ghio
Continuing my iris inventory. Starring is an amoena iris, meaning the standards (the upright petals) are white and the falls (the downward petals) are colored. That dark purple/black looks like velvet up close.
Joe Ghio is a local and somewhat famous iris hybridizer who lives about a mile from here. He often has irises for sale on a little table in his front yard—you put the correct change through his mail slot and choose your bulbs. I’ve acquired several beauties from his stand. Most of them have lost their tags over the years, but this one I know.
Mr S and I worked on the drip system in the front yard, trying to identify old useless lines while making sure everything is getting enough water. Right now it looks like a herd of small animals has been digging holes all over the garden. I look forward to tidying it all up and putting down some nice mulch.
