Saved

The notice on the display tells the story of how the only native British Lady’s Slipper orchid has been saved from the single plant remaining in the wild twenty years ago.

There are now a number of sites where the species has been restored.
However DNA tests have shown that in one site the plants had been crossed with foreign ones. These plants have now been removed from the wild. This is one of them and for its flowering period it has been lent to the garden at RSPB Leighton Moss so that it can be enjoyed by more people.
