Deconsecrating
The movement in and around Québec continued. In a move designed purely to test my hips and please Ottawacker Jr.'s lust for public transport, we caught a bus to the port, where we caught a ferry to Lévis, where we had an excellent lunch at Le Corsaire, before heading back on the ferry to catch two buses to an ice-cream parlour, and walk back home. Then we drove to the airport, said farewell to our gracious host, and caught a plane back to Ottawa. This time Air Canada delayed it by an hour an a quarter.
The blip is of the church formerly known as the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church near to D's house. As the province undergoes a process of deradicalization from its years as an über-Catholic stronghold, more and more churches are deconsecrated. I'm not sure what they will do with this one. It's locked up, attracting graffiti, and serving no purpose whatsoever. It's a beautiful building in the heart of the old town: it was once the centre of a community; now it's an empty husk. I find it quite sad. But then, I wasn't subjected to what many Quebeckers were subjected to...
The perfect place for an ice cream, though.
