Day 146 of 365 - The Charterhouse!

Welcome to day 146 of 365 (Finished image after Editing)

The original photo was taken early this afternoon in Coventry. The image is of the newer part of the Charterhouse of St Anne, the Prior's Lodging. The building forms part of a group of Listed structures that include, The Charterhouse, the Coach House as well as the precinct walls. Also included in the listing are a collection of 15th- and 16th-century wall paintings. It was really difficult to get a photo of the oldest part of the Charterhouse as there were quite a few Cars parked up near it. I will go back on another day to try again. The original Charterhouse dates back to 1385 and was built after King Richard II laid the foundation stone. There is not a lot of the original building that still stands, as most of the current building dates from the 18th century. The original use for the Charterhouse was as a Carthusian monastery. After the dissolution of monasteries, under King Henry VIII. Most of the priory was demolished, but the surviving part from the 15th century became the home of local industrialist Colonel Wyley. The complex was the property of City College over the last few years but was recently taken over by The Charterhouse Preservation Trust on behalf of the City of Coventry, with the mission of restoring the complex and opening it up for the public.

The Charterhouse is classed as a Grade I listed building and the site itself is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. It is number 16 on my list of 19 (Grade I) Listed buildings and number 5 on my list of 10 Scheduled Ancient Monument's in Coventry that I hope to photograph.

As always the shot was taken with my iPhone 5. The photo was taken using the camera App Huemore for iPhone. The original image can be found here: Unedited original Image.

First of all I used the app Handy Photo to edit the image. The edits were made by cloning away the Lamppost near the trees, the Dustbins near the end of the pathway, plus a few little details on the building. Next I used the app PhotoToaster to apply a few presets, such as the Warm filter, the Sharpen FX, a Large dark vignette and the Scratched texture with a Black Artsy frame. Finally I used the App Distressed FX to add the extra texture to the image using the Stirred overlay and the Vanilla Texture.
