Tiwinaku
3 of us went on a day trip to Tiwinaku, an ancient ruins complex a few hours out of La Paz, that back in the day (1000 BC - 1000 AD) was the religious / ceremonial centerpiece of the civilization. They were pre-inca and the Twinaku rule apparently stretched all across south america. Unfortunately nobody knows that much about them because when the site was discovered by the Spanish they looted it for the gold and let others loot it for the stones!
The site was pretty ruined, but amazing nonetheless, with huge monoliths and gateways and intricately carved statues! Here is this mans back - with fun hair and carving all over his body!
