The good, the bad, the mad and the ugly

There is little doubt that Farnham is a nice place to live. But even Farnham has its foibles.

The good (top left): the area alongside the Wey is full of huge, mature trees and there is a lot of lovely green, open space.

The bad (right) the number of empty shops is steadily increasing. In true Farnham fashion the fact the shops are empty is papered over with large photographs of working shops. It does make it look better but Lion and Lamb Yard is becoming increasingly a fake shopping arcade.

The mad (middle left): Only Farnham could have a shop devoted exclusively to the sale of scented candles and other domestic smelly stuff. Isn't there a cost of living crisis happening?

The ugly (bottom left): Since the pandemic 'road calming' measures have been put in place. We have also had a closure to through traffic since the start of the year for sewer works to accommodate the new house builds on the edge of town. I imagine the drivers of the vehicles trying to get through the town centre are anything but calmed.  And driving in to town to shop in the remaining shops is becoming an increasing nightmare.

Sometimes I count myself lucky to live in such a pleasant town. Others, it seems a madhouse. Mostly I ask myself where will it all end?
