Barley in the breeze
JJ and I walked up onto the ridge this morning, down past the windmill, through Stevington and back through the fields. We met several of the neighbours out walking their dogs, and someone JJ knows from the golf club, but apart from that it was very quiet.
I spied a blue tit feeding young in the hole of an Ash tree, heard a few yellowhammers and the odd skylark, and we were lucky to spot a couple of swallows diving over the barley field by the windmill.
A beautiful day, very sunny and warm, but with a stiff north-easterly breeze.
Both sets of birds are still feeding young in their respective nests.
I did get a photograph of a male orange tip butterfly and saw what I think are Ermine moth caterpillars emerging from their web.
JJ and I brought home a willow log several weeks ago, which started sprouting, so we've given it a saucer of water. No idea why, but it seemed a fun idea at the time. (Extra).
Owl pellet found on the patio and disected. Minute jawbones found, probably vole.
JJ has mown the lawn and left the one daisy that's had the temerity of grow in it.
