In Grou
We spent four days in a holiday home in Grou, in the northern province Friesland. Today we left for home again. Before returning home we visited the centre of Grou.
In the centre is the beautiful Saint Peter's Church. In Frisian Sint Piter. In the rest of the Netherlands we celebrate Saint Nicolas at the 5th of December. He rides a white horse. Not so in Grou. They celebrate Sint Piter in February. He rides a black Frisian horse. Up until 2021 he had one companion, Black Pete. That companion has left him to go on a worldwide trip. He will most probably never been seen again. Nowadays Sint Piter is in the company of Aldemar, a man living in a treehouse in a natural forest near Grou. He comes out of the forest once a year to accompany Sint Piter. ;-)
