Lamb's Tail

This Lamb's Tail plant is apparently growing straight out of solid limestone;  there is just a tiny micro crack in which it has established itself.  From where does it get its nutrients and water?  I am certain that it would be quite impossible for anyone to plant anything in this location yet it seems to be growing quite happily and flowers each year.
