A trip to Ängsö Island in Lake Mälaren

Once again it was a beautiful sunny day, so K, MrMacD and I drove to Ängsö Island to go for a hike.  M was suffering badly from hay fever, so stayed at home for the day rather than risk making it worse.  We started at Ängsö Castle, which was first named in a royal charter at the end of the 12th century. We walked around the outside of Ängsö church and then the castle.  They’re both rather lovely buildings.  We then drove to the car park and set off on our walk.  It was lovely in the forest, with lots of birdsong and pretty little flowers starting to open, and it was very special to quite clearly hear a cuckoo.  We eventually found a nice lunch spot on a huge rock overlooking the lake and enjoyed the peace and quiet and beautiful view as we ate our lunch and drank our coffee.  After a peaceful half hour or so we set off to finish the walk and were rather pleased to discover that we had covered a distance of just over 11kms.  The one negative of the day was the fact that we were frequently plagued by mosquitoes.  They seemed to like my hair for some reason, so I had to resort to wearing my buff over my head in an effort to keep them at bay. We drove home and after emptying our backpacks I kept K company while she spent an hour weeding the garden.  Then we showered and changed and put a load of washing on while we had a delicious Halloumi salad followed by a fruit salad for our supper.  It has been another beautiful day, spent with good friends in lovely sunny weather.

The main blip and the extra show various views from the day.
