Ewenny Pottery is exceptional.It is a pottery that has been run by one family- the Jenkins family-for over eight generations.It is living history & has continued in its tradition making beautiful hand thrown, glazed earthenware pottery for use in the home.
The pottery industry has existed in Ewenny since medieval times. Local red earthenware clay formed the pots, glazes that finished the wares, stone that built the kilns & coal to fire the pots were all readily available at Ewenny. During the 1800's there were up to fifteen family potteries at work in Ewenny.
Ewenny Pottery welcomes visitors from near & far & the Jenkins family can be viewed practising their craft in the workshop whilst the finished wares are available to purchase in gift shop.
The girl on the wheel is Caitlin who is Alan's daughter. Alan is in the background putting handles on mugs. While we were talking to Caitlin we discovered that she has a friend in Bellingham, which is were my brother Pilipo & LocalFoodLover live. Small world isn't it?
