taking the T out of Technik

Back at work at CVK. I haven't quite figured out the all that warm weather. In Scottish terms it would have been an absolute scorcher. Trip to Mitte to the machine room. I wandered off with the key to the fire extinguisher system. I noticed when I got home so had to go back into town to return the key. Ah well, the detour wasn't all that bad.

I wonder what new mural the Berlin Technical College is getting.

Finished book #10: Deutschland 2050 by Toralf Staud und Nick Reimer. The look at the implications of climate change in various sectors in Germany 2050. They chose 2050 because most of us will still be around. They also look at the physical implications that can be extrapolated with some confidence. Also the implications  for 2050 are pretty much set since we are already committed. The big unknown is what happens in the 2nd half of the 21st century. In short life will get much more complicated in Germany: the weather will be more erratic, infrastructure will suffer, agriculture will suffer even more. For well off people it will be more expensive, more complicated and less fun. The poor will simply die. The physics of climate change has been understood for over a century. We have known about climate change for half a century. We have had targets for quarter of a century. Yet our emissions are getting bigger. The big thing missing is a change of narrative. There are plenty of ideas, but the media who could amplify them are not interested and the politicians who are elected to deal with complicated situations are interested in their short term survival. The book is recommended because looking away does not help.
