Mechanical
Anybody who has read my journal will know immediately that the image is a macro shot of my sewing machine. I finished a quilt top today*. There are still centers for the flowers to be made by hand, but I can't attach them until the top is quilted.
A propos of the Tiny Tuesday theme for today was an interesting podcast I listened to called 'Nuts and Bolts', the title of a book by Roma Agrawai a structural engineer who was involved in the design of 'the Shard' in London. She discusses what she has identified as the seven most basic building blocks of engineering...the nail, the wheel, the spring, the lens, the magnet, the string, and the pump. She makes a good argument for each of the things she chosen. I'm not a structural engineer but the idea was intriguing. I imagine every realm of endeavor might have its own list of essential elements. I wonder what list readers would come up with, based on whatever they do.
We went to Spring Lake again today which was busy with school groups, quite a few of them were walking around in orderly queues carrying check lists of things they were supposed to find...bugs, flowers, seeds, etc. Another group was sitting around a table listening to a storyteller talking about Native American culture. I commented to John that they all seemed to be having a good time and he said, it's better than being in school.
There was lots of other activity going on around the lake, sprucing things up for its 50th anniversary. this month...activities ranging from fresh coats of paint, new picnic tables, signs and even a new trail or two. The swimming lagoon is open and they are preparing to set up the floating water park which is a huge attraction every summer. Kayaks will be available for rent. This park is really a gem and we are so lucky to have it so close to us.
