Although my first instinct was to cancel my planned outing to Ham Walls on the Somerset Levels, I decided that I really needed some time away from making funeral plans, so I picked my friend up at gnat's whisker o'clock. It was the right decision as it gave me a few hours to think about something else, and the dragonfly roost was spectacular! As well as thousands (no exaggeration) of four-spotted chasers, we saw one newly-emerged emperor dragonfly.
