If you can't beat them...

Humboldt Penguin

Today we visited the Zoo at Regents Park.  I know not to everybody's taste but from my point of view the conservation work they do, including the breeding of endangered species makes them worthwhile.  An example is the Nene (Hawaiian Goose) reduced in the wild to 30 in 1952 saved by captive breeding and released into its native habitat.

As we wandered round enjoying the great weather we timed our arrival at the "Penguin Beach to coincide with a talk about penguins.  Their breeding colony of Humboldt Penguins numbers 70 with eggs and chicks from this year's breeding to be added in.  The "Beach" had a 4 foot glass side where the talk was held.  This presented good blipping opportunities.  The penguins won out over the butterflies in the butterfly house as being less repeatable.

For me the highlight of the day occurred back at the caravan site.  We were sitting outside having a glass of something and Clickychick spotted the Fox coming towards us pursued by an angry Magpie.  Eventually, it shook its pursuer off and made its way round behind our caravan.  The extra shows it as it emerged quite unconcerned about 8 to 10 feet away.  Then it moved on to our neighbour's pitch and had a sniff round their awning.
