Remember the old £1 coin?  
With Decus et Tutamen engraved around the edge.

Dependent upon which you see first, it translates as:-
"an ornament and a safeguard".  OR "Another interpretation is 'glory and defence'." or, as I heard it translated, once, on Radio - "Decorative and useful".

Decorative? - It ain't.
Useful?  -  Beyond measure.

The handle on my Kettle lid was so poorly designed that, in order to take it off, if there was the faintest suspicion of moisture on any finger I had to totally dry them OR insert a nail twixt Kettle and Lid to remove it.

I've finally had ENOUGH!!!  Two short rods+black Silicone sealant may not exactly be beautiful but:-
1. Who the !@ £$%^ sees it to care.
2. It makes life vastly easier on the Lid-lifting front.
