CHINESE LANTERN
I saw this large flowering shrub at Angus’ vet, today. It is a variety of CALLIANTHE,
AKA: CHINESE LANTERN
Painted Indian Mallow or
Redveined Flowering Maple.
It is native to southern Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay & Paraguay. The flowers are loved by pollinators & are edibly sweet.
Our recent drought has taken a toll on
many plants. This large shrub is struggling; but, still flowering. With more care it might be spectacular.
There was also another tree with tiny white flowers. My plant ID APP says it’s an
ELDERBERRY, which is the first I have even seen. Angus’ vet must be a plant enthusiast in her free time!
