An epic day
Some days are just surprisingly wonderful.
I am so glad I did book us tickets.
We have been to Nottingham Castle. It's one of the preview events prior to it finally reopening.
It's been a long time.
The castle closed years ago for a very expensive refurb and it re opened with fanfare only well it flopped (I wanted to go but couldn't justify the price, they did try lowering it before it went all wrong but it was still expensive) and the trust went into administration so the castle closed again.
The castle isn't actually a castle. There used to be a castle it's not now, it's a ducal palace but well they don't really tell people that. I remember my disappointment when we moved to Nottingham.
So trip advisor had many a disappointed reviews, they also made it very expensive and no longer could we just wander around the grounds. There was also scandal and stuff and well it all went tits up.
It's back in council control and they are preparing to reopen soon with new more affordable prices and each ticket is an annual pass.
It's a mediaeval weekend and they have opened up the grounds, the robin hood experience, cave tour and have some re enactment people about.
The playground that was built is truly epic, and I will be buying a pass just so we can pop to the playground whenever we are in Nottingham.
The robin hood experience was interesting and fun but I can certainly see why there were grumbles about it being an additional charge before (as far as I can tell will now be included)
The cave tour was ok, but it was very short so again yep I would not have been impressed at being charged extra.
The cafe was predictably expensive but then they always are but the food was lovely and my peach iced tea was delicious.
I have promised that we will be going back. The tickets are now just £12 as an annual entry and each adult gets to take in up to three children under 15 for free, so I think lots more parents like me will buy entry for the epic playground, great picnic spot and play.
Looking forwards to finally being able to see what they have done inside.
