Sansui A-80 amplifier (1981)

At the age of 16 I was captivated by the quality of music through a real hifi system. My school holidays became a quest to scrape enough cash together to buy a proper (cheap’ish) stereo. This amp and a turntable were the first purchase followed shortly by a humongous pair of 12” floor standing speakers.

I was in heaven. This amp cost £118 which was a bargain for decent specs and 65W that could move the 12” woofers.

It has put in constant service since then, but the speaker ports self-destructed when presented with 79strand copper cable. Today - the solution is proper gold plated terminals. (At the bottom of picture).
