there is a smell
I am not sure if it is all sewing machines. But it is this sewing machine and it is my mum's sewing machine. And it is so strong and distinctive.
This is my nan's sewing machine, although I guess you could say it is now my sewing machine. I am not sure when it was last used before last night, but I would guess that it was pre 1994. And it still worked, I plugged it in and off we went. I was amazed how threading the needle came back to me, as if I had done it in the last 10 years. One quick phone call late last night to Mum and I got the bobbin threaded too. Very proud! Tonight I have completed the sewing machine part of the oil-cloth cushions I am making for TWW's second hand high chair. Tomorrow I need to get to the shops and get some...well I am not really sure what...to finish the final edge and maybe make some straps to keep the cushions in place.
Part of an occasional series on mitochondrial DNA; and I include it because it was my mum's mum's sewing machine. But I am concerned that I seem to be focusing on traditionally feminine pursuits. Sorry mum; next time I blip about mDNA it will be about science, or beer or books or...
