Evening paddle
Friday
We were a bit late getting going this morning , so by the time we had done our respective jobs, it was mid afternoon. Roger had been wanting to kayak on the Little Miami again, like we used to when we used to rent canoes or kayaks. He’s been busy researching online different places we can put in and take out at public areas, so we decided to just try a short run, since it is rather more complicated when you’re not renting. It meant taking car no. 1 the end of the run, then taking car no. 2 with the kayaks to the beginning. At the end we took the kayaks out, and I stayed with the kayaks while Roger drove car no. 1 to pick up car no. 2 with the kayak racks on, load up the kayaks, then drive back to pick up car no. 1! Confused yet? Anyway it worked out well overall, except on the way to drop off car no.1 there was an accident at an intersection, and the police had the road completely blocked. I was following Roger, and he was following the cars in front through a subdivision, hoping they were locals! We finally got to our put in place and set off. It was a beautiful early evening, and we enjoyed a lovely quiet paddle downstream, we didn’t see anyone else on the river except at the point where we passed a Morgan’s Canoe rental campground, and there were a few children playing in the water, with parents watching on. We didn’t see too much in the way of bird life other than swallows swooping low over the water, and Mother Wood Duck lower right, with about 14 chicks following behind! However, we passed several turtles, including a soft shell turtle shown in the upper right.
