´ Butcher Row, Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Originally known as the Flesh Stalls or Shambles. An 1828 directory lists 16 butchers shops on Pride Hill, 15 on Butcher Row and 9 on Fish Street. There was no abattoir at this time and animals would have been slaughtered on site.´
