What an Amerikanka wears under her skirt

Last night I went to the opening of an exhibition of paintings which involved seemingly endless repetition of tiny images which, as the artist told me, were designed to have the effect of going out onto the terrace of your house in the mountains and seeing a sight which causes all thoughts of the unpleasantness of the world to fall away, and be forgotten.

"I see," I said, not seeing.

But behind one of the partitions in this shared studio in central Moscow (the main artist there is a famous photographer), was this paining, done by a 21-year old Moskvitchka, which I thought rather arresting variant on the theme of what a Scotsman wears under his kilt.
