Inlet

Our coolingwaterinlet is a kind of canal which protrudes from the pumping station out into the sea (The Eems that is).
Through this canal flows about 60 cubic meters of water per second and that's quite a lot.
It's built of steel plates at the sides with concrete on top and steel beams to keep it all together.
On those beams mostly seagulls and cormorants are resting after having a good meal consisting of fish, flushed from our filters back into the sea.
Through a catwalk we can walk to the beginning where the inlet is.
There is a light which flashes during the night to warn the seamen when they pass by.
It happened 15 years ago that a fishing boat hit the inlet because the sailor at the wheel had fallen asleep....Plenty damage was the result, both at the inlet as well at the boat.
It has been a case for the Dutch Shipping Council.

Here is a almost Blip of a seagull.
