(Almost) Abandoned Train Station
In Nanaimo BC, with time to kill, the ladies decide to get coffee. They opt for a place that is in a small part of the former train station.
This beautiful building is in a residential neighborhood, away from the core and the arteries and the malls.
Most stations are built to a standard plan, and while this one is too, Nanaimo was larger and more central than other stops, so the building has added features. Wings were added for more space. A second story was meant to provide accommodation for railway employees. These resulted in adornments that make it unique: gables, mock posts, nooks, a decorative arch, etc.
The extra photo shows the type of workmanship that went into the building’s construction. Other that the small coffee shop, the building seems abandoned.
