Hemsley Conservation Centre: Ocelot
Less big a big cat in large
Back blip
Im and I went to her parents' house in Kent, then we all went to Hemsley Conservation Centre just north of Borough Green. HCC is a small zoo housing mostly endangered species as part of larger coordinated efforts to increase breeding populations in captivity in order to aid conservation efforts and to preserve these precarious species... It is a small place, but seems thoughtfully designed, with most animals viewable behind privacy glass and having multi-space enclosures enabling animals to retreat to more secluded areas.
I was torn between images (with a Bali mynah, ring-tailed lemurs, squirrel monkeys, and rusty spotted cats in the running), but seeing this little big cat was probably the most surprising encounter... Ocelots are so like little clouded leopards!
Other pictures are here (or right from Capybara)
