Someone came knocking

We went to the first of two U3A sessions on first lines of novels though it turned out to be first pages. Authors unknown though we guessed but it was interesting to pick up clues about how the story was going to progress, the context in which it was written and the author’s viewpoint.
The tutor’s house was on an estate at the end of a cul de sac and had a simply enormous garden. The cock pheasant and hen are regular visitors apparently. He spent quite some time gazing through the window as though he had some literary interest though the chocolate digestives provided might have been the real focus.
