Robert Louis Stevenson

Today's the day ........................ for R.L.S.

It actually happened last night, but because we have been talking about little else, I thought I would blip it today.

It was a talk we went to last night at Broughton House, Kirkcudbright.  It was given by Professor David Purdie and was entitled, 'Tusitala - the Life and Legacy of Robert Louis Stevenson''Tusitala' of course means 'the Teller of Tales' and was the name given to him by the people of Samoa, the island where he eventually settled and was a much-loved and respected inhabitant.

It was a smoothly-delivered and inspiring talk that has made me want to find out a lot more about RLS - and read more of his books and poetry.  The above is a painting of him by John Singer Sargent - the last of the three portraits that Sargent did of him.  It was commissioned by the Boston banker Charles Fairchild as a gift for his wife Elizabeth Nelson Fairchild ........................
