Bee Orchid

This morning we visited the  West Hayling local nature reserve on Hayling Island in Portsmouth harbour, with our local RSPB group. The reserve comprises shallow lagoons, the  remains  of old oyster beds. Now, it is a haven for seabirds, including a colony of Black Headed gulls,  a few Mediterranean  gulls, a number of Common Terns,  Little Egrets,  Oystercatchers, and a couple of Turnstones. I also found  a few Bee Orchids flowering on the  stony ground between two lagoons, which were easier  to photograph than the  more distant birds.
