EV7 - Day 6 - Verona
We are taking a rest day in Verona, because it is Verona… of Shakespearean Romeo & Juliet, and Two Gentleman of.. fame. We were obliged to pass by the long line of tourists waiting to walk by Juliet Capulet’s balcony, but continued on to experience the non-Shakespearean Verona. We took all day to visit 4 historical Churches of Verona. The River Adige weaves through the town and picturesque medieval bridges cross over. At the first Church, they were setting up for a wedding. Chiesa San Fermo has a magnificent wooden ceiling in the form of an upside down ship’s hull. It was built in the 14th century and has lasted centuries of lightening strikes, earthquakes and bombings! It is 52.5 M long by 18 M wide and is embellished by figures of 416 saints. The last church was San Zeno, who was a North African happy saint, almost buddhalike, I thought
