Roses on my allotment
Went down quite early before it got too hot. Watering and weeding mainly. At last my onions are sprouting their green shoots, and the peas are starting to appear too. I spread lots of my own compost (ie kitchen waste rotted down into lovely brown goo) on the bed where I’m going to grow courgettes this year. I won’t plant them out til they’ve got a bit bigger and stronger, or the slugs will have them.
I listened to the FA cup in the afternoon while I was making some veggie burgers to put in my newly defrosted freezer. I don’t support either team, but was interested to hear how it went. Feeling a little bit jaded about football - the team that wins everything is the richest team, backed by money made from oil by the Abu Dhabi royal family/government.
In the evening I had a zoom call with my friends in Orkney. It was great to catch up, especially when they said they hope I will visit in early autumn:-) I started to research my journey which is never simple. It would be over £500 by train (with a senior railcard) or about £90 to fly as far as Inverness:-(
