Day 2   We took advantage of one of the three different free local buses to explore the local countryside and walk in the woods and on the mountain slopes.   There were colourful flowers everywhere especially in the meadows and farmers were busy mowing or using scythes on steep slopes to make haylage for the cattle.  When the hay dries much of it is stored in traditional huts for winter feed and then the cattle are moved into the cleared fields when the grass becomes succulent.   The varieties of flowers even in tiny fields within the village was phenomenal and I found even more kinds beside the woodland paths including aquilegia, lily of the valley, cranesbill, orchids and violas, in fact over 50 different kinds.  The main picture is Round headed rampion (Phyteuma orbiculare) and the collage includes Alpine plantain, Pink bugle, Mountain cornflower and Herb paris with its four tiny wispy threadlike green petals.
